Insurance Quotes FAQ

+ What is a quote?

A quote is an estimate of premium for the insurance coverage you selected and information you entered. A quote is not an offer for insurance or an insurance contract. Farmers offers online insurance quotes for Auto insurance, Home insurance, Renters insurance, Condo insurance and Term Life insurance.

+ Why do you need my email address just to provide me with a quote?

We use your email address to send you a copy of your completed quote. If you wish to purchase your quote with Farmers, we can also use your email address to retrieve your saved quote. We will not give or sell your email address or any of your personal information for marketing purposes. If you do not feel comfortable giving us your email address or do not have one, you can always contact a Farmers agent to purchase a policy.

+ Why do you need my phone number?

We may use the phone number to contact you about a quote you started or completed. If you prefer not to be contacted, you can elect to contact an agent at your convenience at the end of the quoting process.

+ Why do I have to provide my date of birth to get a quote?

We need this information to provide you with an accurate quote. Like all information in this process, Farmers has taken all measures to secure our online quoting and buying process, encrypting and protecting all of your personal information.

+ Why do you order consumer reports for quotes?

Like the majority of insurance companies, we may review your credit-based insurance score to give you an accurate quote. These reports, along with other reports such as motor vehicle reports, driving history, and claim history could all be used as factors in determining your insurance rate. Whether you are getting a quote or purchasing a policy today, we will order some of these consumer reports. However, be assured that these will not affect your credit rating.

Please note: California does not use insurance scores.

+ Who should I include on my Auto insurance quote?

In addition to yourself, you should include anyone that drives your vehicles. This could be your spouse, children over 16 or other family members that do not have their own insurance, regardless if they share a residence with you or not.

+ My spouse or civil partner has their own insurance. Do I need to include them on this quote?

Even if your spouse or civil partner has their own insurance with Farmers or another company, you need to include him or her on this quote.

+ What if I am divorced or separated?

If you are divorced or separated from your spouse or civil partner, do not include them on your Farmers quote.

+ How many drivers and vehicles can I include in this quote?

In Farmers' operating states, you can include five drivers and five vehicles, with two exceptions:

  • In the state of Kansas, you can quote four vehicles
  • In the state of Texas, you can quote three vehicles

+ Can I get a quote online for motorcycle insurance or insurance for other recreational vehicles?

Currently, Farmers does not offer online quoting for motorcycle insurance or recreational insurance. For a quote, please contact your Farmers agent.

+ Where do I find my VIN?

Your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), a unique number used by the auto industry to identify cars, can be found on the driver's side dashboard where it meets the windshield or on the driver's side door near the latch.

+ My car isn't listed. Can I still get a quote?

We do not provide online quotes for specialty cars. Try entering your VIN number or contact a Farmers agent for assistance.

+ Do I include accidents in my Driving History that were not my fault?

Yes, you should include all accidents regardless of fault. You will have the option to select the type of accident.

+ What violations should I include?

You must also report all violations with the exception of parking tickets.

+ How do I retrieve my saved quote later?

To retrieve your saved quote, we will need your last name, date of birth, zip code and your quote number or email address. If you are unable to retrieve your quote, please contact your Farmers agent for assistance.
